Banff named one of world’s top February travel destinations

An Alberta destination has landed on a list of the world’s top places to travel to this month.

According to the U.S. News and World Report, Banff claimed the fifth spot on their top 15 list.

“Banff’s scenic, snow-covered mountain views and long ski season make it one of the best places to visit in February, especially if you love spending time outdoors,” the report shared.

It also explained that the Alberta town’s location in the Canadian Rockies within Banff National Park, Canada’s first national park, means it offers plenty of opportunities for winter hiking, snowshoeing and wildlife viewing.

“When you’re ready to hit the slopes, head to Banff Sunshine Village, Mount Norquay Ski Resort or the Lake Louise Ski Resort.”

Other locations on the list include:

  • South Island, New Zealand
  • Saint Lucia
  • Phuket
  • Swiss Alps

Last month, Banff took the top spot in TripAdvisor’s recently released Travellers’ Choice Awards

Banff claimed first place overall, praised for its “soaring mountains, jewel-coloured lakes and pristine wilderness,” as well as the warm hospitality at both Banff and nearby Lake Louise, which came in 13th place. Lake Louise is celebrated for its breathtaking mountain scenery, excellent skiing and snowboarding, and summer hiking and rock climbing opportunities.

The New York Times included the Canadian Rockies, particularly the Jasper-Banff corridor, at 13th place on its 2026 list of 52 must-visit destinations worldwide.
