Alberta was just named a top place to visit by Travel + Leisure

If you feel immense pride travelling through the rugged Rocky Mountains, vast prairie plains, and scenic lakes throughout Alberta, you’re not the only one.

In fact, the beauty of our province has recently attracted the attention of a prestigious international travel magazine.

Alberta was named a top destination by Travel + Leisure, with activities like fly fishing, mountain biking, and heli-hiking earning accolades for our humble Canadian province.

Major draws for Alberta include the “hallucinatory blue” of Moraine Lake and the amazing wildlife that can be found throughout Banff National Park.

Take a look at what else Travel + Leisure had to say about Alberta, and why our province is set to become a top 2026 travel destination.

A travel destination for nature lovers

Travel + Leisure recently identified the 50 best places to travel in 2026, and amongst Malaysia, California, Italy, and Taipei, Alberta made the cut.

Alberta was identified as a top location for nature lovers. Bison, grizzlies, and elk are frequently seen wandering throughout the iconic Rocky Mountains and plains of the western province.

The magazine also listed a few new exciting developments that are putting Alberta on the map in 2026, including the transformation of the Rimrock Resort Hotel in Banff, a new thermal wellness facility at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, and the reopening of Calgary’s Glenbow Museum after a $120-million renovation.

The town of Jasper was devastated by wildfires in July 2024, but it’s making a comeback as the tourism industry recovers from these effects.

Despite all the innovations in our province, some of the classic draws remain as strong as ever.

The fly-fishing in Alberta is world-class, and the mountain bike and hiking scenes are also nothing to scoff at.

A round of applause is in order for Alberta — and if you haven’t visited us yet, you’ll have to make the trip out soon!
