Pittsburgh has been named one of National Geographic’s 25 “Best Places to Travel” for 2026, making it the only U.S. city on the list.
The selection, which was curated by National Geographic’s global team of explorers, editors, and photographers, highlights the city’s vibrant culture and transformation from its industrial past.
Jerad Bachar, President and CEO of Visit Pittsburgh, tells KDKA Radio it’s an incredible honor.
“What Nat Geo told us that they were really impressed by was the investments that are going into Pittsburgh, including the new Pittsburgh International Airport, but of course all of the public spaces that are being invested in, such as Arts Landing, the new Market Square. . . Point State Park, all of those investments really stood out,” said Bachar.
Pennsylvania’s Tourism Department called it a “game-changer” for tourism in the state.
Other reasons include:
A Growing Cultural Scene: Pittsburgh continues to build on its reputation as a hub for arts, innovation, and creativity, with expanded museums, public art, and live performances.
Authentic Neighborhoods: Iconic bridges and walkable districts connect visitors to the city’s distinctive communities and local flavor. You can find more about the Best in the World list here.
