Evacuation orders issued for parts of Paia due to brush fire

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Maui first responders are working to address a brush fire in Paia that has led to evacuation orders and warnings in multiple areas.

MEMA officials said the brush fire was reported just before 1:30 p.m. near Holomua Road and Baldwin Avenue.

Those in evacuation zones are urged to leave immediately. Officials said door-to-door evacuations and evacuations through EAS, WEA, Genasys, MEMA Alerts and sirens are occurring.

Baldwin Avenue and Holomua Road have been closed for firefighting efforts. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.

County officials said brush fire size estimates and further details are not available at this time.
