A new global ranking from insurance platform HelloSafe reveals which countries are safest for tourists this summer. Czechia ranks among the top ten, ahead of popular destinations like Italy and France.
Czechia ticks the right boxes
The ranking is based on 35 indicators across five categories: level of crime, risk of natural disasters, quality of healthcare, terrorist threats, and militarization. All information was sourced from international organizations, including the UN, World Health Organization, Our World in Data, and the Global Peace Index.
Czechia’s low crime rates, reliable healthcare, and peaceful society mean that the country ranks as one of the world’s safest countries according to HelloSafe – specifically, the fifth-safest in Europe and sixth globally.
Czechia safer than neighbors
Czechia is indeed impressively safe compared with its neighbors and nearby countries. On a European level, Hungary came ninth, followed closely by Slovakia (10th), Germany (14th), and Poland, all the way down in 23rd.
Only five countries ranked higher than Czechia in the report: Iceland, Singapore, Denmark, Austria, and Switzerland respectively. This places Czechia not only in the elite company, but also at the forefront of safety within Central Europe.
Less safe countries
If you’re traveling to other European countries this year, you should be wary of Greece. According to the report, the Mediterranean country is the third-most dangerous country in Europe, with only Russia and Ukraine deemed less safe. France is ranked Europe’s fourth-least-safe state, followed by Italy, Spain, and Albania respectively.
On a global level, look out for Colombia, Mexico, and Venezuela: these are Latin America’s most dangerous countries, HelloSafe says.
Historically a safe country
In recent years, Czechia has consistently ranked well in global safety indices. According to a 2025 index by insurance firm William Russell, Czechia ranked just outside the top 10 globally in a safety index comprising over 160 countries. The nation’s strong police presence, good public health system, and low poverty risk ensured Czechia’s high placement.
In the 2024 Safety Index compiled by statistical aggregator Numbeo, Czechia ranked 12th safest in Europe. This is a slight drop from its 2023 position, likely influenced by the mass shooting incident in Prague. Nonetheless, Czechia remained the second-safest nation in Central and Eastern Europe.
