Developed by Mastercard and CrescentRating, this annual index evaluates over 100 destinations based on their readiness to cater to Muslim travelers, taking into account factors like halal dining options, prayer facility access, cultural sensitivity, and inclusive tourism practices.
This year, the Philippines garnered a score of 53, up six points from the 47 it recorded in 2024.
The country’s tourism department has expanded its Halal and Muslim-friendly tourism portfolio through the introduction of Halal-certified dining options, recognizing Muslim-friendly establishments, and improving quality of tourism services.
“By prioritizing halal and Muslim-friendly tourism, we not only demonstrate our commitment to inclusivity and cultural sensitivity but also open up opportunities to attract more Muslim travelers from around the world,” the department’s Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco was quoted as saying by GMA Network media company.
To further cater to Muslim travelers, the Philippines launched a dedicated beach zone for Muslim women on Boracay, its most popular island resort, Arab News reported.
