One Fayetteville is man dead and another is charged in his death, police say

Police have arrested a Fayetteville man in the Sept. 19 shooting death of another man at a home near the Murchison Road and Country Club Drive intersection, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

Officers were dispatched at 10:06 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, to a home on the 1700 block of Veanna Drive in response to a report of an accidental shooting, a news release said.

Officers and EMS personnel arriving on scene found an adult male inside the home suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, the release said. He was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injury.

Police have identified the victim as Kwamee Dawson, 32, of Fayetteville.

Doveon Wright, 26, of Fayetteville, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, the release said. He is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center with no bond.

The release said that a preliminary investigation found that a family disturbance inside the home resulted in the victim’s death. Detectives with the Police Department’s Homicide Unit have taken over the investigation.
