You can’t go back in time, but you can still take advantage of lingering Prime Day deals. I’m still seeing discounts on Samsung gaming monitors, Google devices, OLED Nintendo Switches, AirPods, and more—including the GoPro Hero12 Black, one of Lifehacker writer Stephen Johnson’s favorite products ever. It’s still going for $279 (originally $369.99), nearly $100 off the usual price.

This isn’t the newest GoPro available; that’s the GoPro Hero 13 Black, which came out this past September, with the GoPro Hero 14 expected to be released in fall 2025. GoPro releases a new camera just about every year, so the changes aren’t always groundbreaking, and there’s not much you can do with just a GoPro, since they heavily rely on their accessories.

The GoPro Hero 12 Black received an “outstanding” review from PCMag upon its 2023 release for its user-friendliness, top-of-the-line video stabilization, good options between resolution and frames (5.3K60, 4K120, or 2.7K240), a front and rear display, waterproof build, and being small enough to squeeze in small spots for the perfect shot.

One of the biggest omissions on this version compared to older ones is the GPS feature, which drained the battery aggressively. Even with those omissions, though, the battery won’t last a whole day. You’ll need to have a microSDXC to store your videos, and you’ll have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and USB-C connectivity. Because it shoots in 8:7 aspect ratio, it’s better suited for widescreen and vertical social video crops.
