Looking for a nice Mequon home and have at least $1 million or so to spend? The IRS has a deal for you.
A 5,335-square-foot four bedroom home, which includes 4½ bathrooms and an attached garage, will be auctioned off at the Ozaukee County Courthouse Thursday. The property is at 118 E. Springwood Court, and the sale is scheduled for 10 Thursday morning at the courthouse in Port Washington. Registration for the auction will be from 9:30 to 10 a.m.
The IRS describes the property as a “stately colonial home on a private wooded lot in Beechwood Farms with natural light, spacious rooms & a functional floorplan.”
Bidding on the property that is now owned by the federal government starts at $990,000, according to the IRS. The winning bidder must pay for the property with cash or a certified, cashiers or treasurer’s check, the IRS said. Payments can also be made using U.S. Postal, bank or express money order.
The property has a bit of a colorful history. It had been the home of Eric Lenzen, a prominent Milwaukee lawyer turned criminal. He pleaded guilty last year to not paying federal taxes on $3.4 million of income. He was dubbed a “con man” by his father and was sentenced to 16 months.
His law license has been suspended for disciplinary and other reasons.
Prior to his legal troubles Lenzen had led the national Financial Services & Capital Markets Industry team at the Milwaukee law firm Husch Blackwell before he and six other partners joined Dykema Law, a national firm.
A Lenzen defense attorney declined to comment and hung up on a reporter.
