Humble Vancouver Island has once again been recognized on the world stage, this time by U.S. media network CNN.

On New Year’s Day, CNN Travel released its list of the top 25 places to travel to across the  globe, called “Where to go in 2025: The best places to visit.”

Vancouver Island was the only Canadian destination to make the list, and just one out of a handful from North America at all.

Other locations that made the list included far-flung locales like Almaty, Kazakhstan, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India, and Taupō, New Zealand.

CNN Travel did not give each location an individual ranking, instead it only placed them in alphabetical order.

The American news network was enamoured with the Island’s west coast, particularly Tofino, Ucluelet and Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.

It also highlighted the world-renowned Butchart Gardens, describing it as a “55-acre wonderland” that’s rounded out with delicious food offerings to make for a literal and “visual feast.”

Meanwhile, CNN also gave some love to the Kingfisher Pacific Resort & Spa in Courtenay,

“Wild, untamed landscapes and explosions of manicured blossoms are just some of Vancouver Island’s natural draws,” wrote CNN in its best places to visit list.

While CNN may have kicked off the year with its recognition of Vancouver Island, it’s not the first time the Island has been highlighted on the international stage.

In July, Travel + Leisure crowned Vancouver Island the best island in all of Canada, and a few months after that Conde Nast Traveller U.K. called Vancouver Island one of the top 10 islands in North America.

That same year, neighbouring Salt Spring Island was also praised as one of the top 50 islands in the world by Big 7 Travel.
